CMSgt Martin P. Varney, USAF (ret.)

This site is dedicated to the memory of Martin P. Varney, May 13, 1945 - November 29, 2006.

Who?

My name is Keith Varney and Martin Paul Varney was my father. He was born on May 13, 1945 and died (too young) on November 29, 2006. He had three siblings, Joe, Vera and Katherine, two children, Keith and Rod, and two grand-children, Steven and Elena. He spent nearly half his life serving in the U.S. Air Force and lived his last years in retirement just outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

What?

Photographs. Lots of photos taken throughout his life. And a lot of incomplete information. I found many of the photos in a collection of boxes he got from his mother, Katherine Barnes, after she passed away in 1993. In turn, many of those photos were from her adoptive mother, Edna Kamerer, as noted on the backs of a number of the photos.

Why?

Today, May 13, 2014, would have been his 69th birthday. Shortly after he died I was taking care of his "estate" by closing out bank accounts, cleaning out his house, etc. At that time I had the unsettling feeling that I was slowly erasing him from history. It was nice for him to get a headstone at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, but I felt that a website would be a better tribute to him. In addition to a place to tell his story, it could also serve as a home for information about the Varney family. So, in a nutshell, that's why this website exists.

Help

My Dad died when he was 61 and there are so many stories that he never got to tell me. Share your stories about my Dad. Tell me who the other folks are in these photographs. Tell me everything that I got wrong. If you knew Martin (or Marty or Chief) contact me at and tell me your stories. I would love to hear them and post them here.
